Inspired by original swords handled by Chris in the Royal Armouries, this transitional spada has a historic, blade-centric feel. Its length sits between that of a rapier and a sidesword, while its hollow pommel and long broad blade contribute to a strong forward balance, making the sword ideal for opposition fencing.
As such it is designed for an experienced fencer with a good feel for measure. It excels in binding, displacing and committed thrusting with the body lined up behind it, but despite its light weight it is not suitable for wrist-centric styles that rely on feinting or voiding the blade.
In line with our Black Ribbon suite, the blackened hilt features straight, flat-section quillons that flare to the ends with acanthus leaf carvings at the terminals. The foreguard has one protective ring with a traditional scallop shell guard, while the rear has an x-shaped counterguard design, making it suitable for left or right handed fencing.
The flattened cylinder pommel is hollow-forged, aiding in the blade-led feel of the sword. The hexagonal wooden grip is wrapped with linen thread and covered in dark red kidskin.
Please note: this rapier is sold as seen. If you are inspired to create your own design, please contact us to discuss a custom commission.
